Manufacturing Engineer (Hydraulics)

Role purpose

A fabulous opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer with a Hydraulics bias, for this forward thinking expanding company, to provide technical support to the Production Departments by identifying the operations required to produce products and developing processes to ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met on a timely basis and in accordance with business needs.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Provide full hydraulic engineering and technical support across the manufacturing department to ensure that production operating levels are achieved and maintained
  • Manage internal projects within agreed timeframes and to budget
  • Produce and maintain relevant internal documentation to company standards, ensuring they are
  • clear, concise and understandable for all users
  • Coach and support staff where required
  • Generate, develop and update PCPs, VCPs and Control Plans
  • Design and develop assembly and testing fixtures to meet the departmental needs, liaising with the Manufacturing Services staff when required to arrange fabrication
  • Identify and lead cost reduction and process efficiency improvement activities, including provision of relevant documentation relating to cost savings and proposed efficiencies
  • Support prototype builds ensuring that all special requirements are met
  • Support production by working closely with Team Leaders to fulfil requests for tooling and/or

assistance where required

  • Specify and purchase facilities to aid production, liaising with relevant internal departments where
  • necessary
  • Work with the Quality Engineers to improve quality of products and processes and assist with investigations regarding returns field issues and Customer rejects
  • Implement and monitor Lean Manufacturing processes ensuring that best practice is achieved and maintained
  • Identify, justify and implement improvement opportunities
  • Liaise with personnel at Client, Inc and control and co-ordinate new Valve builds from USA

Qualifications & experience

  • HNC/HND level in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Proven experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experienced in managing projects, delivering on time and within budget
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and/or pneumatics essential.
  • Thorough understanding and experience in application of lean principles, including Kaizen, 5s and

Kanban

Skills

  • Strong Hydraulic valve knowledge & problem-solving skills
  • Computer literate, with sound knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, define problems, collect data, establish
  • facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • CAD skills, AutoCAD or Pro E experience advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to express ideas, share technical information and
  • communicate at all levels
  • Self-motivated, a quick learner, capable of multi-tasking and comfortable when working under
  • pressure in a limited time span

Quality, Environmental Health and Safety

  • Read and understand Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety policy and discuss with their immediate superior any specific points which require clarification
  • Take reasonable care for their own safety and those around them who may be affected by their acts or omissions
  • Co-operate with the company in achieving and maintaining Quality, Environmental Health and Safety standards where relevant and as directed
  • Report to their manager any actual or potential risks, accidents or dangerous occurrences that they identify in the work place

System security requirements:

  • To ensure the confidentiality and integrity of Client information is maintained and is not compromised
  • To observe and adhere to IT policies and procedures in effect at any given time
  • To report any security incident or perceived irregularity to their Line Manager and the IT Department

Environmental requirements:

  • Awareness of hazardous and non-hazardous material
  • Segregation of waste
